It is a fact that a CV gets no more than 30–60 seconds attention so it must have an immediate impact and grab the interest of the reader. Make sure you highlight the most relevant information according to the role you have applied for. This is your one and only chance to impress a potential employer so your CV needs to be perfect.

OUR CV TOP TIPS

  1. Do tailor your CV and cover letter specifically to each job you apply for
  2. Do use key words and phrases from the job description
  3. Do make sure you provide specific detail of your achievements. For example, don’t say you improved the volume of data exceptions, say you reduced the volume of data exceptions by 50%
  4. Do keep it sharp, concise and cut out anything superfluous
  5. Do keep it simple, use a clear font – don’t make the reader hunt through an elaborate array of graphics
  6. Do double check for spelling and punctuation mistakes
  7. Don’t be boring – the ideal CV should be no more than 2 pages long
  8. Don’t include a photo (unless it’s asked for)
  9. Don’t write about yourself in the third person (‘he’ or ‘she’)
  10. Don’t send it from a wacky email address
  11. Don’t include anything controversial or too personal – it might make you stand out, but not in a good way
  12. Don’t exaggerate your qualifications – most employers will check
  13. Do not make your CV too fancy. Click here to find out why you should keep it simple
